The magic of
Nanotechnology is mind boggling. Untill the advent of
nanotechnology detecting RDX was a near impossibility. One had
to do physical check or use sniffer dogs. Both are unreliable.
RDX is a very stable chemical compound and hence it is near
non volatile. Even when kept in open one would find only parts
per million molecules of RDX in air around it. However
nanotechnology based detection devices could be made that
could change the security scenario completely. Work in this
direction is taking place under the national nanotechnology
initiative in Indian scientific
institutes.
In like manner, nanotechnology could
revolutionize the electronic industry. Though for past many
decades electronic industry has seen components shrinking in
size, there is an optimal size below which it is impossible to
shrink the conventional electronic components. However,
Nanotechnology comes handy whereby one could construct the
electronic gadget bottom-up. Stunning stories like
this make the serial Nano Ki Duniya produced jointly by Vigyan
Prasar and Developmental Educational Unit (DECU) ISRO. The 13
part serial would be telecast from September 30, 2007 in DD
National (DD- I) between 0900 to 0930
hrs.
Presented with sleek visuals and racy style
the serial would attract the young people in addition to those
who are keen to understand this frontier area of science. Rich
in animation the serial explains the basics of nanotechnology
in accessible language. Topics such as nanotechnology and
micro electronics, nanotechnology and agriculture, medicine
and so on dealt in the serial. Even while the serial presents
the futuristic world possible with the maturity of
nanotechnology, the work taking place in our country, the
products that have hit the markets find a place in the
storyline. Though the serial contains 13 parts, each one are
independent in itself covering a particular area of
application of nanotechnology. |
