Vigyan Prasar is engaged in the popularization of Astronomy at national level through various means.

Our prime objective includes:

· Design and development of Astronomy Kits, interactive multimedia CDs on different topics of  Astronomy.
 ·
Organize ‘Telescope making workshop’ for school students, teachers and amateur astronomers.
 ·
Organize programmes on astrophotography through small telescopes, astronomical events like Night sky Watching, Meteor shower observations,Solar, Lunar Eclipses, transits of inner planets etc.
 ·
Participate in National campaign/workshops to keep update about recent developments in Space Science and Astronomy.

Future Activities:

To enthusiast students, VP is interest is to provide facility of astrophotography and  photometry of celestial objects through small telescope. VP is intended to undertake night sky observations at special events like, meteor shower, close proximity of planets to Earth, Lunar Eclipse, Solar Eclipse etc. Some of the observational astronomy projects to be undertaken are:

•  Finding differential rotation of Sun through the observation of Sunspots.

•  Observation of Solar Limb Darkening

•  Study of light curve of variable stars.

•   Finding an effective temperatures of well-known stars (bright star).

•  Finding an atmospheric extinction coefficients in different colors (U, B, V, R)

•  Finding air-mass value through photometry of stars

•  Performing good quality colour photography of nebulae, galaxy, planets etc.

Participation: VP is looking forward to have a great participation from schools, colleges and any interested organization with whom VP can reach to grass root level for the popularization in the country. Apart from this any interested individual can get the information about the astronomy through the contact person.
