The Republic of India (India), the world's sixth largest energy consumer, plans major energy infrastructure investments to keep up with increasing demand--particularly for electric power. India also is the world's third-largest producer of coal, and relies on coal for more than half of its total energy needs. Keeping the nation's air clean is a national priority. Power plant emissions endanger human health and have significant environmental consequences. Clean air policy, including the promotion of renewable energy and energy efficiency, can substantially reduce these negative impacts. Much can be done at the state level to promote clean air, and in the process provide local and state economic benefits. |
Government is the controlling authority of resources. It can do the following to conserve conventional energy and promote non polluting, renewable energy :-
1. Encourage research to develop alternate source of energy.
|
India is trying to expand electric power generation capacity, as current generation is seriously below peak demand. Although about 80% of the population has access to electricity, power outages are common, and the unreliability of electricity supplies is severe enough to constitute a constraint on the country's overall economic development. |
2. Encourage Industry to manufacture energy efficient appliance.
3. Encourage individuals to use energy efficient appliance.
4. Encourage and invest on mass transportation system.
5. Change government procedures in all areas to remove the need for an individual to repeatedly visit government office, their by reducing the load on transportation and saving of time for both Individual and Government employee.
6. Encourage Individuals to live near their work place. This can also be taken in account while allocating govt. accommodation to their own employees.
7. Encourage Individuals to walk to office/ school/ market
8. Encourage use of remote procedures via. Internet.
9. Research on virtual office to reduce the need for travel.
10. Increasing Greenery to reduce the load on air conditioning in hot regions.
11. Research and encourage energy efficient buildings for residence and office use.
12. Research and Encourage manufacture of vehicle to use non polluting and alternate/ renewable fuel.
