ELECTRONIC MEDIA PRODUCTION CENTRE EMPC INDIRA GANDHI NATIONAL OPEN UNIVERSITY

Electronic media production centre is situated at the Sanchar kendra at the IGNOU campus. Born out of a collaboration of JICA Japan , it is the best facility available in any university in the world.

Equipped with the state of art technology, EMPC is also the centre from which Gyan Darshan -Educational TV channel of India is telecast.

Activities:

The EMPC produces audio/video courseware for IGNOU programmes; disseminates educational programmes through both broadcast and non broadcast mode; co-ordinates with broadcasting and distribution agencies; adapts and integrates new communication technologies for distance learning; develops quality courseware in media studies and provides ' hands-on' experiential training; networks and collaborates with various training & educational institutions/agencies; conducts research and training to strengthen the content, utilization and delivery aspects of distance learning; develops and offers audio/video library resources; designs and co-ordinates pilot projects in the application of communication technologies to improve and strengthen distance learning; undertakes marketing and sale of EMPC-IGNOU products and facilities.

Academic and Training Activities

Highly qualified academic and research staff are involved in planning and conducting regular short- term/ long-term programmes related to electronic media production.

Course on offer:

One year PG Diploma programme in Journalism& Mass Communication.

Courses planned:

PG/Advanced Diploma programmes in Audio/Video Production, Videography, Video Editing & Audio- Video Technology.

Training programmes:

Competency -based workshops in programme production, technical operations, research techniques, presentation and marketing like Advanced Lighting Techniques, Script Development, Orientation in A/V Media for Distance Education Faculty and Evaluation Techniques of ETV programmes.

Research

Research studies are conducted on a regular basis in the areas of educational communication developing educational technology strategies educational training methodology/ delivery mechanisms/ infrastructure.

Consultancy

The EMPC offers consultancy services for turnkey productions technical matters software research training in TV/ Radio programme production and technical operations.

Classrooms/Conference rooms

Classroom/conference/ meeting room (20-30 seater) facilities are available both at Sanchar Kendra.The facilities as well as services of competent production and technical staff are available for production, training and consultancy to other educational/ training institutions.

Training & Development Communication Channel (TDCC)

To enhance the interactivity with the learners, one - way video, two - way audio communication facility is being offered by EMPC-IGNOU jointly with Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO). This satellite based communication in real time is made available on the extended C-band transponder of INSAT 2C.

It is a multiple-user facility being shared with other educational and training organizations in the country.

IGNOU uses the facility for following activities: Tele-counselling to student groups :

Training Study Centre Counsellors/Co-ordinators

Administrative interaction with Regional Centre functionaries

Extended Contact Programmes (ECP) with students.

The TDCC consists of teaching- end studios (located both at IGNOU campus, New Delhi & ISRO premises, Ahmedabad) and about 140 receiver `nodes' located in IGNOU Regional Centres and Study Centres.

Transmission

The audio/ video programmes produced at EMPC are broadcast/ telecast over the national channels of AIR/ Doordarshan regularly.

Video telecast (National Network/Doordarshan): Every weekday Mon.- Fri.[6.30 to 7.00 A.M.]
Audio broadcasts (from AIR Hyderabad): Every Tues./Thurs./Sat.[6.00 to 6.30 A.M.]
Audio broadcasts (from AIR Mumbai): Every Thurs./Sat.[7.15 to 7.45 A.M.]
