“Vigyan Prasar”, national institute of Science Communication under the Dept. of Science & Technology. Govt. Of India, has undertaken a project to make weekly video programme titled ‘Science This Week’ based upon the current affairs and news related to science, technology, health and environment. A first weekly current affairs/ news based video programme in india title in Hindi “Vigyan Derpan” and English “Science this week” will be telecast Every Thrusday and Friday at 09.30- 10.oo PM from Lok Sabha TV With an innovative idea to explore and depict happenings in the field of science and technology, Vigyan Prasar has come up with a challenging task of producing weekly science news capsules for Lok Sabha TV Known as ‘Science this Week’ in English and ‘Vigyan Darpan’ in Hindi, the weekly news covers important national and international events, discoveries and happenings in the field of science and technology. It’s for the first time in the history of Indian television that a science news slot not only occupies the space of effects but also the space of causes. This is what science is all about. Rather than sensationalizing a particular news item, the weekly news sensitizes the masses by projecting the true science behind it. Like the Super Moon did no harm to the earth as was predicted by many news channels. Similarly, Tsunami doesn’t happen due to divine intervention. The voice of eminent scientists and experts from the field of science and technology give credibility to the reports. The weekly news has many segments for varied interests of the viewers.
